The Past
 
IMS was started as a company that managed orthodontic practices, and our software was designed to accomplish that task. IMS' core product was first introduced as DATALINK 2000 Orthodontic Software©, in July 1988.  In 1994, IMS  introduced the first fully integrated management system.  To better describe the capabilities of the software, in July 1996, the name was changed from DATALINK© to IMS for Orthodontics©.
 
Although the software has been used in practice management since 1988, IMS did not actively begin selling the program to non-management practices until 1993. Since IMS has started to sell its software the number of IMS clients has been rapidly accelerating as orthodontists discover the superiority of the IMS software, and it's ability to integrate with any ancillary system used in the practice. 
  
The Present
 
IMS continues the pursuit of it's vision... delivering efficient, cost-effective practice management to all the dental specialties through the use of a fully integrated computerized management information system. Today, this vision is embodied in IMS Digital Office©, and in other IMS software.
 
The talents of all individuals on the IMS Team are now being put to good use as they continue to improve and expand the technologies and services involved in providing integrated practice management systems. Simultaneously, they are taking advantage of the many opportunities that exist for controlled growth and expansion throughout the health care industry. This expansion includes providing derivatives of the IMS software to meet the needs of the other dental specialties - including a multi specialty version for practices and clinics where more than one specialty is practiced. Although unavailable at this time, it is currently under development.
 
The IMS mission is to eventually supply the practice management needs of every health care provider at a cost that makes economic sense. Our orthodontic software continues to be the best value in the industry and we have a trained, professional staff dedicated to providing the client with the best products, services, and support at the lowest cost possible. IMS is dedicated to providing products, systems, and services, that are always on the "leading edge" of technology and to doing important things first and doing them better. The Future
 
IMS for Orthodontics is used in practices throughout the U.S., Canada,  and Australia. Over 75% of our installations have replaced an existing computer system. In orthodontics, IMS has replaced programs from Orthotrac, Ortho II, OPMS, Orthoware, OAsys, PIMS, PCM, Class I, OrthoSoft, New Horizons and Rovak. We are willing to do a side-by-side comparison demo with any system, whatever their cost.
 
IMS is the technological leader in orthodontic practice management software. For instance, more IMS clients have systems fully integrated with imaging and are operating some form of the Paperless Practice, than any of our competitors! The IMS software has been integrated with the major imaging systems since January 1993, and has been operating Paperless Practices for more than eight years.
 
What many other orthodontists (and most other companies) talk about as the system of the future - the "Paperless Practice" - has been available from IMS for over eight years! IMS for Orthodontics allows replacement of all the paper and plaster (models) in the office, creating the paperless practice. This system will continue to enhance practice efficiency and profitability. Much of this is achieved by integrating all the diagnostic tools and information systems used in the practice. Workstations at each chair allow the clinical staff to display records, see reminders about important matters, record treatment, schedule the next appointment, and check out the patient. Staff members record diagnostic measurements at the initial exam and letters to the patient and referring dentist, complete with photographs, are generated as the patient leaves. Each new patient can leave the office with a customized booklet containing complete information about his or her treatment or a CD containg their case presentation. The booklet or CD can include color images showing the current patient condition, and the  projected results of the proposed treatment. Color images of appliances to be used in treatment, and a description of their use, can also be provided.
